“Since we started putting together our makeup collection, Kardashian Beauty, I’ve been extra invested in our list of no-no ingredients. It’s an ingredients black list that we don’t allow into the products—no parabens, no sulfates. Being a mom, I have become really invested in that—I just feel like once I know something, I can’t go backwards and pretend like I don’t know it. My friend Sarah sends me lists sometimes, she just sent me one recently with 15 dangerous ingredients, which I forwarded to everyone involved in Kardashian Beauty to make sure that none of the ingredients were in our products. It’s hard to do at a mass level, selling with CVS, Ulta, and other stores, but for me, that’s the most important thing.

When I do my own makeup, I always start with Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. Then, under my eyes I use Make Up For Ever High Definition Concealer and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage to cover any spots. It's great. I've caught Scott stealing my tinted moisturizer and concealer in the past, too. [Laughs] After, I put on our Endless Summer Matte Bronzer. It’s this big and it comes with three shades, so I use the darkest shade to do a quick contour on my nose and cheekbones—contouring and highlighting are the best things I’ve learned from getting my makeup done on set. I never really knew they existed before someone did it to me, but now I have to contour. Sometimes, instead of blush, I’ll just wear bronzer. And I always set my makeup with an organic rosewater spray. I just have to; it’s crazy, but I don’t feel finished without it.

For my eyes, my day-to-day just involves curling my lashes to open up my eyes, and applying our mascara, The Quickie. If I’m getting my makeup done, I like to get individual lash extensions or a strip of false lashes, depending on how glam I want to get. I learned how to apply liquid liner when I was in, like, 8th grade—my mom taught me. So I’ve kind of got that mastered. There’s no real trick to it; it’s all about the applicator. Our Film Noir Drama Liner is good because the pencil applicator makes it easy to draw on. I think my favorite look is black liner with a neutral lip—classic and simple. I prefer a really natural look on Kim, too. She’s so pretty. Even when she has no makeup on, she looks so pretty. For myself, I want to focus on the eyes instead of the lip for a while.

So my most embarrassing recent beauty blunder involved my lips—I had my makeup done for something, and they'd lined the outside of my entire mouth with a shiny red lipstick. I don’t know why I didn’t look in the mirror, but I went out with my entire family, and so many friends, after the shoot, and not one person cared to let me know that the liner was sitting a quarter-inch outside of my actual mouth. [Laughs] My lips were double the size. When I got home and saw myself, I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.’ I took a picture and showed everyone the next day and said, ‘How dare none of you tell me that this is what I looked like the entire night?!’ [Laughs]

That being said, I’ve been wearing lipstick since I was in 7th grade. That was our form of daring self-expression, because we had to wear uniforms in school. It made our teachers so angry. Now that I have a daughter, I’ve been thinking about how I'll define beauty to her. I watched a video of Kendall when she was three, and she was putting on makeup. I don’t know how I feel about that. But my daughter already watches me do it. When do you let them start wearing it? I don’t know yet.

I’ve been applying makeup long enough to feel good doing it on my own, but I cannot do my hair to save my life. When left to my own devices, if I have to go to an event, I do a slicked bun. Otherwise, I just try to wear a hat, put it in a ponytail, or do a side braid—something easy. I have no clue how to do it; it’s really becoming a problem. It always turns into a stringy hot mess. Scott, on the other hand, is great with his hair. He’s never without his hairspray, even when we travel.

The one product I hoard more than anything else is Mama Mio Boob Tube. It’s a cream that you’re supposed to apply from your neck to just below your boobs. It has all good ingredients, and it promises to firm and tighten a little. I’m obsessed with it because I’m starting to feel the aging signs lately, so it’s my new thing. I apply it from my neck down to my toes. I’ll take it all the way down. It’s got to be good for my legs and everything else!

I just started getting into a more consistent skincare routine, too. Paying attention to skin started early for me—I’ve been using eye cream since middle school. Kim and I would put vitamin E oil on our eyes. We thought it would make our eyelashes grow. We already had long eyelashes, so I don’t even know what we were after, but people used to always ask us about our lashes, and we’d be like, ‘It’s the vitamin E oil.’ I just started using Dr. Brandt Lineless Eye Cream, but for years I was using Ole Henriksen Eye Creme, because I trust the ingredient list. To wash my face, I love using my Clarisonic with Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar. I use that every day, and take it with me when I'm traveling.”
